A summertime tradition in Garland that was put on hold for two years because of COVID-19 is back this year. The city is holding its Sounds of the Summer Concert Series every other Thursday, with the first show tonight at Audubon Park.
Some concerts this summer will be at the Winters Park Auditorium. The city has not hosted concerts at that venue since the 1990's.
"I'm really excited. It's not just the return of the concerts, it's really taking the concerts to another level," said Jimmy Wallace, owner of Jimmy Wallace Guitars in downtown Garland. His business is one of the co-sponsors of this year's concert series.
"It's like we're out of captivity. We want it to be great, great, great events," he said.
He worked with the city to bring in a diverse mix of acts from different genres, including some established headliners and those still on the way up.
"We want to hit a real cross-section of music, because Garland is a real cross-section of people," he said. "We just want everyone to get some of what they want to listen to."
The first show tonight at 7:00pm features Grady Spencer and the Work. Future shows will feature Christone 'Kingfish' Ingram, Ally Venable and Cody Canada and the Departed.
