Troubles continued Friday for the Texas Department of Public Safety, after they encountered a massive glitch while upgrading one of the software systems used at driver license facilities.

Friday morning, the Texas DPS announced that only three driver license centers will open for appointments at this time: the Garland Mega Center, Fort Worth Mega Center and Carrollton Mega Center. They said they were in the process of notifying those affected, and letting them know what their options are.

The problems started Labor Day Weekend, when DPS said they tried to upgrade one of the systems. Something went wrong during the upgrade, and forced the agency to cancel appointments statewide for renewals, requests for driving records, and issuing licenses, among other things.

This week, the DPS had hoped to open each day, but each day they announced they couldn’t get the problem fixed in time to open their doors.

The DPS has not said how it will handle drivers who encounter law enforcement with an expired driver license. It’s not known exactly what the glitch is, but officials say it’s not a security issue of any kind.
