Another North Texan is headed to federal prison for his part in the deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol building on January 6, 2021.

50-year old Daniel Phipps of Garland says he considered himself to be a patriot. He thought he was exercising his First Amendment right to take grievances to the government when he got into fights with three different police officers who were defending the US Capitol on January 6th, 2021.

Prosecurots say Phipps not only got inside, he even took a picture of himself inside the Capitol building with a flag draped over his shoulder. None of that was legal.

Phipps pleaded guilty to two felonies and four misdemeanors. Court recoerds show he had made his way into the Capitol, mingled with other rioters, and then refused to budge as police finally were clearing everyone out. Phipps even boasted of what he did on social media, claiming he had helped take the hill.

Three weeks after the riot Phipps was arrested in Corpus Christi.
