One of the men accused of running that sex trafficking ring in Plano got quite a talking-to from a federal magistrate Tuesday for using a jail-supplied computer to send hundreds of messages including some to co-defendants or potential witnesses or victims.
Many people might be surprised to learn at least some jails do furnish inmates with tablets. One of those is the Fannin County jail where William McKinnley Garland has been locked up since being captured at his Plano rental home last week.
At the Federal courthouse in Plano yesterday, the magistrate was asked to order Garland's tablet be taken away, and she did just that.
Garland faces two federal charges including conspiracy to commit sex trafficking by coercion and coercion and enticement by aiding and abetting.
In another development, Garland’s attorney, Michael Price, was hired just before Garland’s first appearance last week, but yesterday he requested that he be removed from the case and the magistrate agreed to that, too.
Another lawyer will need to be appointed by the court.
