Texas Governor Abbott says he's ready for the fight, and now it's on with the Justice Department announcing that it is suing Texas over its new, controversial immigration law.

Governor Abbott released a statement on social media, saying in part, "Biden sued me because I signed a law making it illegal for an illegal immigrant to enter or attempt to enter Texas directly from a foreign nation. I like my chances."

The Biden Administration wants the new Texas law, known as SB4, enjoined so that it does not take effect in March.

The Governor signed the law last month, giving judges the right to "remove non-citizens from the country" and mandating that law enforcement officials carry out that order.

In the suit, the Feds say Texas has no such authority, and that immigration is a federal matter. And the Justice Department says it has the Supremacy clause on its side meaning federal jurisdiction controls immigration matters.

The lawsuit also takes issue with a provision that allows the deportation of anyone charged under SB 4, but not convicted.

The Governor has welcomed a legal fight so that the matter can be appealed to the US Supreme Court.
