Governor Greg Abbott is asking for a federal disaster declaration for several counties in northeast Texas because of damage caused by tornadoes on November 4th. He has submitted a letter with that request to the US Small Business Administration.

The storms initially brought rain and high winds to the DFW area on the afternoon of November 4th before intensifying as they moved through northeast Texas. Damage was reported in Paris, Powderly, Sulphur Springs and several other communities. The National Weather Service confirmed several tornadoes, including an EF-4 in Lamar County.

The Governor's Office is requesting a US Small Business Administration disaster declaration for Lamar and Morris Counties. It says survey crews have determined that the damage meets the financial threshold set by the SBA.

If the SBA does grant the declaration, it would make people and business owners in those counties eligible for long-term, low-interest disaster recovery loans. The programs would also be available to people in surrounding counties including Bowie, Camp, Cass, Delta, Fannin, Marion, Red River, Titus, and Upshur.
