A dangerous cobra that got away from its owner in August of 2021 is still on the loose, but now the owner is in captivity.
On Friday, Grand Prairie Police arrested 23-year-old Lawrence Matl on a warrant for violating Texas Parks and Wildlife Code 43.853, Release from Captivity, a Class A Misdemeanor.
Matl is the owner of the infamous snake, a West African Banded Cobra, that got out of its enclosure and went missing in the 1800 block of Cherry Street in Grand Prairie.
Matl did have a legal permit to own the snake but violated that permit when it got loose. He is being held on a $10,000 bond at the Grand Prairie Detention Center.
News of the missing snake made national headlines following a search by Animal Services, the owner, and a venomous snake apprehension professional. To this day, the snake has still not been found and is considered to be very dangerous. Residents who live in the area and see any type of snake believed to be the missing cobra, are asked to call 911 immediately.
A parody Twitter and Facebook account was also created for the snake.
