Grapevine-Colleyville ISD has canceled classes at every campus Thursday and Friday as a result of a spike in COVID-19 cases. In a letter to parents on Wednesday, the district said 5.74% of students and staff had active cases.

"This decision was made to provide four days for students and staff members who are currently COVID positive to become well," the district wrote, saying the time would also allow for additional cleaning.
Grapevine-Colleyville ISD says 233 new COVID cases were reported among students and staff Tuesday. The district now has a total of 843, up from just 42 active cases reported on January 4.
"While we have made every effort to continue in-person instruction, it has been negatively impacted for several days due to the increased number of student and staff cases," the district wrote in its letter.
In addition to a spike in cases, GCISD says it has not been able to staff enough classrooms with substitute teachers. Wednesday, the district said it needed 169 substitutes but only could fill 76 positions for a fill rate of 44%.
UIL events in Grapevine-Colleyville will continue as scheduled Thursday and Friday; other campus activities will be canceled.
