Some North Texas kids are going back to school after an extended absence caused by a surge in COVID-19 cases while other districts in North Texas are making the difficult decision to close.
Starting today, all schools in the Weatherford School District are closed for the rest of the week because of the rising number of cases there. The district says it's done everything possible to stay open - but it just doesn't have enough staff or substitutes.
WISD notified parents and staff early this afternoon that, due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases and the impact this is having on daily operations, all Weatherford ISD schools and buildings will be closed January 19-21. Classes resume on Monday, January 24, 2022. pic.twitter.com/MTdXV5lLji

All high school, and middle school UIL and Extracurricular activities will continue. That's because they can't be rescheduled and the district does have enough staff for those events. Elementary school activities are canceled.
Meanwhile the Mansfield school district is reopening schools today.
The district says keeping all campuses closed for five days provided much needed respite and recovery for students, staff and substitutes. The district says after a thorough evaluation it can safely reopen today.
