Burn bans are now in effect in 215 of Texas' 254 counties as the unending heat wave dries out vegetation across the state.
The most recent county enacting a burn ban is Grayson in North Texas along the Red River.
Fire danger remains moderate-to-very-high over the whole state. Nearly a dozen wildfires remain active in Texas. All but one are east of a line running from Wichita Falls in the north down to Laredo.
The biggest fires are the Wichita County West Bend fire and the Chalk Mountain Fire in Somervell County. Both are over 6,000 acres.
Since the first of the year, the Texas A&M Forest Service has battled more than 1200 wildfires that have burned a half-million acres.
Some of the fires that are burning in North Texas include:
* The Sandlin Fire in Parker County has burned about 170 acres and is 80% contained.
* The East County fire Kaufman County has burned over 400 acres and is 90% contained.
* The Chalk Mountain Fire in Somervell County has burned over 6300 acres and is 10% contained.
