Mansfield could be one step closer to landing an H-E-B grocery store.

Executives from the San Antonio-based company will be in Mansfield Thursday afternoon, meeting with city leaders during a special public forum.

"For a year now - an entire year - everywhere I go and other council members, what have you asked us? 'When are we getting our H-E-B?,'" Mansfield Mayor Michael Evans said in a video posted to his Facebook page earlier this week.

Mansfield's quest to land an H-E-B store goes back many years.

The company purchased the plot of land at the southeast corner of U.S. 287 and E. Broad Street in July 2016 but has yet to break ground on anything there.

Despite the many years of delays, people in Mansfield remain eager to have H-E-B come to the city, and the interest appears to be mutual.

"We were going to travel to San Antonio, in order to meet with them at their headquarters," Evans said. "But you know what they said? 'We will come into Mansfield, and we'll meet with you.'"

Evans has been urging people in the city to send emails to the city secretary to express their support for an H-E-B so that he can present them to company leaders.

The public meeting will be in Mansfield council chambers at 2 p.m. Thursday.

"You demanded it, and here we are - we're going to get them, just like you asked us to do," Evans said.
