A family in Fort Worth working with Habitat for Humanity celebrated the completion of the frame of its house Thursday. Trinity Habitat has now built four homes with volunteers from the eye care supply company, Alcon, since 2019.
The home will go to Ivone and Luis Mendoza and their daughter, Lisset.
"They're going to be such proud homeowners in the City of Fort Worth," said Alcon's Rick Weisbarth.
The family joined volunteers at Alcon's campus in South Fort Worth to build the frame of the house. This week, volunteers worked two shifts to finish the frame, siding, trim, windows and doors.
"It's an amazing experience because I didn't know anything about construction, and I see women working here," Lisset Mendoza said. "I think it's pretty cool to see them working hard and teaching you tips and tricks."
"We thank God, we thank Habitat, we thank everything," Luis Mendoza said.
Habitat for Humanity requires families to participate in the construction of their home. They also take classes on budgeting and maintenance.
"We keep that in our heart and our minds because we can use that later," Luis Mendoza said.

Families also pay mortgages and, once the house is moved, will pay property tax at a lot that had been empty or abandoned.
"What it does is not only give a family a new start, but it really helps build the local community," Alcon's Weisbarth said.
“Throughout our 22-year partnership with the Alcon Foundation, Habitat families have always been the motivation and focus of our joint work. That care and concern for our community of this generous partnership has resulted in building a total of 22 Habitat homes in Fort Worth since 2000 and a home in Granbury following the 2013 tornado. We are grateful to the Alcon Foundation and the hundreds of Alcon associates who have built Habitat homes with our families over the years," Trinity Habitat Chief Executive Gage Yager wrote in a statement.
Trinity Habitat says this is the 23rd home that will be built and then moved over the past 33 years.
