The DFW area was hammered with rain on Saturday, bringing a total of 2 to 4 inches, causing ponding on area roads and some smaller-scale flooding.
Even after the Texas Department of Transportation warned that heavy rain would cause low visibility and ponding on roadways, some motorists didn’t listen, resulting in a number of accidents.
Several of the accidents were a result of vehicles hydroplaning, and by late Saturday afternoon, MedStar Crews had responded to 43 crashes, with 23 of them resulting in someone being transported to the hospital.
Compared to last Saturday, under sunny skies, MedStar responded to 20 accidents, with only seven of them resulting in someone needing to be hospitalized.
While it’s hard to tell if all of these accidents were weather-related, it is clear that posted speeds and stormy weather don’t mix.
Both area airports set rainfall records for April 4. Dallas Love Field received 4.22 inches, destroying the old record of 2.09 inches, and DFW Airport received 2.34 inches, eclipsing the old record of 1.52 inches set in 1942.
