A male teacher at Hebron High School who received national attention for wearing a dress on "school spirit day" has resigned.
Our partners at NBC 5 report officials with the Lewisville School District told students yesterday about teacher Rachmad Tjachyadi's decision to step down.
A picture of him wearing a pink dress to school on 'spirit day' got negative comments online from the public and some conservative leaders, including Texas Governor Greg Abbott. "No parent should be forced by the state to send their child to this school," wrote Abbott, using the opportunity to push for his failed school voucher plan.
But students say he was a great teacher who brought nothing to the classroom but knowledge, and that he will be missed.
In his resignation letter, the teacher wrote "It has been very difficult to see the hateful comments on social media".
The Lewisville School District claims there are no specific policies related to how teachers can dress on spirit days.
