If you live in Tarrant County and need help paying your utility bills, help is available.
Fort Worth's Community Action Partners group is putting on two events to help Tarrant County residents apply for grants to help them catch up on their utility bills.
"This is an opportunity for people to get their bills paid for," says Scott Daniels with Fort Worth's Neighborhood Services Department. "They don't have to pay back that cost later down the road."
Daniels says unlike at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the problem is not the fact that many people are out of work; rather, it's the soaring inflation that's stretching some family budgets thin.
"I do think that there's an issue with the rising cost of rent and other bills that that money has to go towards," says Daniels. "And now, we are seeing people who just need an extra hand."
Both events are at the Northside Community Center, 1100 NW 18th St. in Fort Worth.
Tuesday's event runs from 2:30-7:00 p.m., and the second one will be Friday, Oct. 28, from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
There are eligibility requirements.
"You have to live in Tarrant County," says Daniels. "We need your income for the past 30 days for all household members that are over 18 years old. We need their ID, proof of citizenship and legal residency, and Social Security cards."
If you can't make it to either event, you can still apply online.
