The Cotton Bowl will host more than one Red River rivalry this fall.
Southlake Carroll High School announced it will face Jenks High School from Jenks, Oklahoma at 7 p.m. Aug. 28 at the historic stadium to open the high school football season.
The Dragons were originally scheduled to play Orange Lutheran of California, but the Lancers withdrew after a head coaching change.
Southlake Carroll coach Lee Munn said he had not planned to schedule an out-of-state preseason game, noting the talent-rich region in Texas. However, following the departure of former coach Riley Dodge and with University Interscholastic League realignment approaching, the Dragons were behind on finalizing their schedule.
Jenks coach Adam Gaylor had previously reached out before Lutheran’s cancellation, prompting Munn to revisit the matchup. The idea of playing at the Cotton Bowl came later, officials said.
Southlake Carroll is an eight-time state champion and a regular contender in the playoffs. The Dragons last reached the state final in 2024, when they fell to Vandegrift High School.
With top programs from Texas and Oklahoma meeting in an iconic venue, the game is expected to draw national attention and marks Munn’s debut as Southlake Carroll’s head coach.
