The Better Business Bureau is urging people to be careful this holiday season when purchasing a pet online. They are issuing an update to their in-depth study on Puppy Scams and want to make sure consumers know how to stay away from fake online sellers.
Monica Horton with the BBB joined the KRLD Afternoon News on Tuesday to discuss some of the recent findings. She said they find that puppy scams continue to be consistently profitable for puppy scammers and the losses are greater than their last study conducted in 2017 by 60%.
She encouraged anyone who sees something suspicious to flag it with the BBB before they get involved with a scammer. She says many times these crooks are from out of the country which makes it much harder to retrieve the money lost. She says many times they ask for a digital payment through something like Zelle or Paypal.
