For the second straight weekend, protesters filled the streets of Downtown Dallas upset with President Donald Trump's executive orders on immigration.
Last weekend, protesters gathered along the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge. This weekend, they marched through Downtown and held a rally outside Dallas City Hall.
Through dance, signs, chants, music, and marches, demonstrators expressed their thoughts and opinions regarding the new administration's stance on immigration.
"This affects everyone, not just a singular people," one demonstrator said. "It affects the whole community, and that's what we're all out here for."
"I'm here to give a voice to those who can't come here and are in fear of all the policies coming out through this administration," another said.
Police shut down streets and guided protesters. Many were carrying signs, singing and dancing as the march moved through Downtown.
A smaller group of counter-protesters also gathered outside City Hall.
"I have no problem with people coming across the border who are actually trying to get a better [life]," one counter-demonstrator said. "But if you do come across, come the legal way. There are people who've been waiting years, doing it the right way."
A protest was also held in Houston Sunday. Others held a demonstration outside an ICE facility in Pflugerville, north of Austin. Students in San Antonio are planning to walk out of class this Wednesday to protest ICE agents being allowed into schools.
Exit polling by CNN during the election in November shows Donald Trump won 55% of the Latino vote in Texas.
The non-profit, Unidos US, analyzed election results in Texas. The organization says Trump won 14 of the 18 counties near the border; in 2020, Trump won seven of the 18 counties.
Unidos' poll showed Latino voters listed inflation and cost of living their top concerns in November followed by jobs and the economy and then housing costs. Protection for immigrants finished as their sixth most pressing issue; border concerns ranked eighth.
