An Arlington man died in a confrontation with police Sunday in what officials are calling a suicide-by-cop incident.
Arlington police officials say the officers were called to a home on Fallcreek Street near Pioneer Parkway and Matlock. On arrival, Police made phone contact with a man identified as Patricio Gamboa inside the home and were trying to talk him into giving up.
Police say Gamboa emerged from the home with a firearm. He was then directed to drop the weapon, but did not.
"Based on the man's actions multiple officers fired their service weapons" officials said.
With Gamboa down, officers began life-saving efforts until paramedics arrived. But he died at Medical City Arlington about an hour later.
As is routine in cases like this, the officers involved will be placed on paid administrative leave while the investigations are conducted.
