Irving Police have announced an arrest in a murder from 1994. Megan Johns, 29, was killed at her apartment October 5, 1994.

Irving Police say coworkers called the complex that day when Johns did not show up. The manager of the complex found her body on the floor and called police.

Investigators found no sign someone had broken in, so they believed Johns knew her killer. They say she had a history of drugs and alcohol, and since she had gone sober, she was helping others overcome addiction. Police believed she may have known people who would want to victimize her, but they never made arrests.

They did recover DNA from her apartment and during a recent review, a sample was tested and returned a match. Police have now arrested a neighbor, Daniel Goggans.

"We the largest debt of gratitude to these detectives who have fought tirelessly, shown tremendous courage and diligence in continuing to fight for Megan," says Johns' sister, Bridget.

The lead detective on the case retired in 2016 but kept in touch with the investigator who took over.

"This is emblematic of the tenacity," says Irving Police Chief Derek Miller. "Police officers, detectives, they are called to this profession."

Miller says detectives interviewed Goggans at the time of the murder but did not find evidence he may have been involved. They have not released a motive, but police say Goggans was arrested in Lancaster and is now in the Irving city jail.

Johns' family says she was considering a career in child development but was working as a secretary for a financial firm at the time of her murder.

Kelly Chance says Johns was the maid of honor at her wedding. She says she almost fainted when she got the call about the arrest.

"She was actually getting somewhere in life. She had moved to a nice place, closer to work. Things were looking up for her," Chance says. "It's just really tragic what happened to her."
