The debate on whether students should wear masks in public schools continues as COVID-19 continues to affect the day-to-day running of schools.
Across the state, 19 school districts including Fort Worth and Dallas are currently challenging Governor Abbott's executive order which bans mask mandates in public schools.
On Friday a judge in Austin said that the governor overstepped his authority, and ruled that all 19 school districts can move ahead with their mask mandates.
However after the ruling, the state immediately appealed that decision.
This news comes as another district has had to close once again due to COVID-19 issues.
The Venus ISD in Johnson County will close until after Labor Day due to staffing shortages due to COVID-19. The district held school on Friday, but won't conduct classes again until September 7.
