With polls opening at 7 a.m. and closing at 7 p.m. today there's plenty of time to get out and vote for the 90% of registered Texas voters who did not cast a ballot during early voting.

That ten percent early turnout was down this time around, with about 200,000 fewer voters than in the 2020 presidential primary.

Most political observers put that down to less competitive races at the top of the ballot that both President Biden and former President Trump are widely expected to win handily today.

The most interesting statewide race is for the US Senate seat that is being held by Ted Cruz. Cruz has two challengers in the GOP primary. Democrats have nine names on their ballot, the two best known are Dallas Congressman Colin Alred and the State Senator from Uvalde, Roland Guttierrez.

If one of those does not reach a minimum of 50 percent today, the top two finishers will meet in a run-off in late May.
