The mother of the 17 year old charged with murder in the death of another teenager at a track meet in Frisco earlier this month says her family has been threatened since a judge lowered his bond. This week, the judge reduced his bond from $1 million to $250,000; Anthony was released after his family posted it.
April 2, an arrest warrant says Anthony killed Austin Metcalf, also 17, during a track meet in Frisco. During a rain delay, the warrant says Anthony was standing under the wrong tent. During the argument, witnesses told police Metcalf pushed Anthony; Anthony responded by stabbing Metcalf, killing him.
Metcalf's father came to a media event Thursday and stood among reporters but did not answer any questions. Next Generation Action Network called Dallas Police, and officers walked him out of the building.
During the event, Anthony's mother, Kala Hayes said the family had started receiving death threats.
"My 13 year old daughter is afraid to sleep in her own bedroom," Hayes said.
She said "the truth will come out" at trial.
"To the family who experienced the loss, my heart truly goes out to you," Hayes said.
The arrest report says Anthony asked police if the stabbing could be considered self-defense because Metcalf "put his hands" on Anthony.
Anthony was not able to attend because of the conditions of his release which say he must wear an ankle monitor and remain at home except for meetings with his lawyer or if he has prior approval from the court. He must also check in with a baliff every Friday morning.
