Keller ISD has named a sole finalist for its next superintendent. Doctor Cory Wilson has been serving as interim superintendent since January.
Wilson replaced Tracy Johnson who resigned in January.
“It's been a huge distraction, a distraction that is not needed right now at this time of the year or ever. We have staff members that are worried about whether or not they're going to have a job, and that hurts my heart because, as an educator of 25 years," Johnson said during that meeting.
In February, students at high schools in Keller ISD walked out of class to protest the proposal to split the district.
The school board dropped the plan in March.
Cory Wilson has worked for Keller ISD 23 years. The district says he started as a teacher at Parkwood Hill Intermediate School then became an assistant principal at Bette Perot Elementary. He later became principal there before taking the same job at Ridgeview Elementary.
He joined the district office in 2013 as executive director of leadership and served as assistant superintendent of education services before becoming interim superintendent.
"Dr. Wilson has been a stalwart member and educator in Keller ISD," School Board President John Birt said at the meeting.
The school board voted unanimously to name Wilson lone finalist.
