Plans to divide a North Texas school district have been abandoned following weeks of controversy and public backlash.

The proposal, backed by some members of the Keller ISD school board, would have split the district using U.S. 377 as a dividing line. The plan faced strong opposition from other board members, parents, and Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker.

Board member Chelsea Kelly, who opposed the proposal, called the decision to scrap it a major victory but expressed frustration over how the announcement was made. Kelly said she believed the district owes parents an apology for the uncertainty and stress caused over the past three months.

Kelly said she and many parents still questioned why the proposal was introduced in the first place, noting that she has repeatedly asked for an explanation but has yet to receive one. Despite the lingering questions, Kelly said she hoped the community could move forward together.
