Keller ISD school board members will discuss a proposal to split the district in two at a meeting on Thursday night. The proposed plan would carve off the western portion of Keller ISD along U.S. Highway 377 to create a new district, tentatively named "Alliance ISD."

Proponents argue that the move could help prevent school closures, a challenge faced by some neighboring districts in recent years. However, opponents have raised concerns about the lack of a public vote in the process.

Kristy Hill, a parent in Keller ISD whose home would fall within the proposed Alliance ISD boundaries, expressed apprehension about potential loopholes that could allow the split to proceed without voter input.

Parent advocate Laney Hawes echoed the call for transparency, emphasizing the importance of giving residents a say in such a significant decision.

"This is a blueprint for how to take over public education across America and they're starting in Tarrant County," Hawes said.

The proposal is set to be discussed at the Keller ISD board meeting, where officials are expected to address concerns from both sides and outline the next steps.
