The federal lawyers for former Kaufman County Judge Eric Williams are asking for another six months to review evidence for another appeal, more than nine years after his death penalty trial.

The appeal is pending in federal court. In the latest filing, the legal team for Williams says there are still hundreds of thousands of pages of documents, millions of images, and hours of audio and video files that were never reviewed by the defense.

The lawyers want another six months of time and for the court to approve hundreds of more hours of legal time to review the evidence before the judge makes a ruling.

Eric Williams is on death row for the 2013 murders of Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland and his wife. Both were shot to death in their rural Kaufman County home.

The case went to trial less than two years after the murders. The defense now claims it has run out of money and time to look over evidence that the state turned over late and in a disorganized manner.

Although Williams was also charged with murdering McLellan's first Assistant DA, that case was never brought to trial.
