Police say a Lyft driver was shot at the end of a fare Tuesday night in Far South Fort Worth. They were called to an apartment complex near Sycamore School and Crowley Roads at about 8 p.m.

Police say 29-year-old Marx Jean picked up a couple "off the books" since he drove them before. Jean was shot three times in the arm and leg by them at the end of a ride. The driver was taken to the hospital and is now recovering as of Friday.

"I remember this, basically the guy pulling the gun out and shooting me," Marx Jean told our media partner NBC 5. "And I'm in shock mode, like, when I picked you up before you and your friends were cool."

Detectives were at the complex Tuesday night, but they have not said what might have led to the shooting. Fort Worth Police had not made any arrests as of Friday evening.

Lyft publishes an annual safety report and says safety incidents are "statistically very rare." The company says safety issues occur in about one in every 500,000 rides.

Lyft says it has worked to "build a trusted community" and provide tools for riders and drivers to get help through its app. The complete report can be found at https://www.lyft.com/blog/posts/2024-safety-transparency-report.
