Finding the perfect home is hard enough as is, but now it may be getting even more difficult. The cost to buy a home in DFW continues to increase and the Dallas Builders Association recently revealed a lumber shortage may add an additional $19,000 to the cost of a new home. Thanks to this shortage, one major home builder has decided to cancel two story builds in a North Texas neighborhood, disappointing many potential buyers.

DFW home builder D.R. Horton recently sent out an email to potential buyers of a new development in Aubrey, claiming they can no longer build two-story homes. This is due to the increase in lumber prices, caused by a shortage of materials. “We're trying to make sure that everybody has a roof over their head and an affordable place to call home but if you can't find the lumber, and you can't get it affordably, it’s impossible to deliver that right now,” said Phil Crone, executive officer of the Dallas Builders Association.

According to NBC DFW, it is unknown when the lumber issue will be resolved. Now, many are left wondering if this policy will extend to other neighborhoods in the metroplex. Hopefully something changes, or many may be forced to stay on ground level.
