Court papers say the man arrested in Saturday's shooting at the State Fair of Texas told police he feared for his safety, but police seem skeptical.

According to an arrest affidavit 22-year-old Cameron Turner told police he had gone into "defensive mode" against a group of men and opened fire in the food court area of the fair.

One of the people that Turner knew was wounded along with two bystanders who were hit by stray gunfire. In the affidavit, Turner claimed he was protecting his family from the "group of big males."

The affidavit says he told police he fired 3-4 times. The papers say police reviewed surveillance video from the scene and it showed that Turner was by himself. And it says while there were several adults, only one stepped forward and that he was not armed, nor did he reach for anything.

Police say that man is not cooperating. The other two who were wounded say they never saw the shooter.

Turner is listed on the police report as a Richardson ISD employee at Westwood Junior High, but the school district says it has no record of him as an employee.
