Police in Royse City say it appears a 19-year-old man took his own life after setting two houses on fire Thursday afternoon. Both homes had ties to the same family.
Police got a 9-11 call from a home on Valley Court. The caller said a man had come into the home with a can of gasoline and told people to get out. The house was on fire when emergency crews emerged a few minutes later, but all of the residents had managed to evacuate safely.
A second 9-11 call came in about two minutes later from a home on Janette Court. That home was also on fire. Firefighters contained the flames at both locations, but both structures had heavy damage.
A search at the first location on Valley Court turned up the body of the 19-year-old suspect. Investigators say it appears he committed suicide after setting both fires. Royse City Police and the Royse City Fire Department are investigating the case.
