A man is locked up after leading Mesquite and Dallas police on a long, winding chase at the busiest part of the afternoon commute yesterday.

Officials say it all started before 5 p.m. when Mesquite Police tried to pull a car over. But the driver hit the gas and the chase was on.
Officers believed the driver was armed as they chased him to West Dallas on I-30 near Hampton. Dallas County Sheriff's deputies tried to lay out spike strips but the driver kept going.
At one point, he turned 180 and started heading back toward downtown Dallas and then up Highway 75. The driver pulled off at Fitzhugh and then got caught in a dead-end. That's when he bailed out and made a run for it. But police had the help of a helicopter and he didn't get far.
Even at the end, though, he wouldn't give up quietly so officers tasered him and that was it. He's now behind bars on a range of charges. Despite some close calls, no other vehicles collided with the suspect's car.
