MANSFIELD, Texas — A 56-year-old Mansfield woman died Saturday afternoon after becoming trapped beneath a riding lawn mower that overturned into a creek behind a residence, according to authorities.
Deputies with the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office were dispatched around 5:10 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, to a home in the 100 block of Willow Creek Circle following reports of a severe residential accident.
When emergency crews arrived at the scene, they discovered that a riding lawn mower had rolled into a nearby creek bed, pinning the operator underneath the heavy machinery. First responders learned that the woman's husband had attempted to free her from under the mower prior to the deputies' arrival, but was unable to rescue her.

First responders located the victim submerged under the equipment and pronounced her dead at the scene. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office later identified the victim as Krista Thompson. An official cause of death remains pending completion of an autopsy by medical examiners.
Detectives with the Tarrant County Sheriff's Criminal Investigations Division have launched an inquiry into the exact sequence of events leading up to the rollover. Investigators noted that while the incident remains under active review, preliminary findings indicate no signs of criminal activity or foul play.
The tragic accident highlights the hidden hazards associated with operating heavy lawn care machinery near steep embankments, soft soil, and water hazards.
