The jury decided Thursday evening that the mastermind behind the murder of a former OU football player is guilty of capital murder.
This shortly came after the man prosecutors say was the mastermind, took the stand today in his defense.
Antwan Franklin is accused of being the man behind the murder of Du’vanta Lampkin in May 2022. He is one of three men arrested in the case and took the stand in his own defense today.
Prosecutors told jurors while Franklin was not in the room when Lampkin was murdered, he is just as guilty as the other two men. Franklin says the idea was to rob Lampkin, but not kill him, something he would never do.
During his testimony, he appears to be blaming the victim for what happened.
"He threatened me that if I didn't do it, that some stuff was gonna happen," Franklin said in his defense. "Like he knew that I was a person that had my own drugs and money and he's, he threatens me that, that he would rob me in my mother's home."
Franklin was supposed to go on trial last year but is accused of cutting off his ankle monitor and taking off before being caught in Richardson days later.
In October, a jury found Williams not guilty of capital murder. Eric Garcia is awaiting trial.
And while prosecutors are not seeking the death penalty in this case. The judge read the verdict:
"With the jury unanimously by the defendant Antoine Franklin guilty of a capital murder charge in the indictment."
