Dallas Mavericks CEO Rick Welts has announced that the team will need a new arena by the 2031-2032 NBA season.
Speaking during a broadcast of the Mavericks' game against the New York Knicks, Welts emphasized that the team is "on the clock" to find a new home, as their lease at the American Airlines Center expires in 2031.
Welts assured fans that the Mavericks are committed to staying in Dallas and are exploring all possible options to ensure the team remains in the city.
He acknowledged that while the American Airlines Center has been a great venue for basketball, it lacks modern amenities that fans expect in 2025.
The team plans to invest in improving the fan experience at the current arena during the remaining years of their lease.
Speculation about the new arena's location has included sites in Irving, Texas, where plans for a casino resort have been proposed.
However, Welts reiterated the team's dedication to finding a solution within Dallas.
The announcement has sparked excitement and curiosity among fans, as the Mavericks look to the future of their franchise.
