Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd has been fined $35,000 by the NBA after publicly criticizing game officials and using profane language following his team’s 111-107 loss to the Houston Rockets on Jan. 31 at Toyota Center, the league announced Monday.

The fine was levied for Kidd’s postgame comments in a media interview where he sharply took aim at the officiating crew’s performance.

According to the NBA’s official announcement, the discipline addresses two aspects of Kidd’s remarks: his public criticism of referees and the profanity he used while speaking to reporters.

Kidd’s comments came after a late-game sequence involving Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg, who appeared to be fouled on a potential tying play that went uncalled.

The Mavericks’ loss to Houston marked a continuation of a challenging stretch for Dallas as it works to climb back into a Western Conference playoff spot.

While the fine adds to the ongoing discussion about acceptable public conduct toward officials, the NBA’s policy on criticizing officiating and using profane language in public comments remains clear.
