Following the shooting in Uvalde, Fort Worth's mayor says we must do better.

Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker penned a note to the city following last week's school shooting in Uvalde advocating for certain changes to current laws.

Acknowledging a mental health crisis has impacted the nation, especially since the beginning of the ongoing pandemic, Mayor Parker added gun violence is "tearing this country apart and no city, small town or region is immune."

She wants to see the age at which someone can buy a gun raised from 18 to 21. She also says the Fort Worth City Council is working with first responding departments to evaluate procedures and current resources devoted to keeping schools safe.

Mayor Parker ended her post promising to advocate for policy change in Austin and D.C. saying she is determined to make Fort Worth safer.
