Mesquite police say they will not be at tonight's meeting with parents over Monday's shooting at the Pioneer Technology and Arts Academy.
Detectives are still taking statements and executing search warrants, meaning the investigation continues. And until they have all the facts they are declining to meet with the parents.
Police say three officers opened fire Monday afternoon on an armed 16-year-old, firing 19 times and possibly grazing the teenager with one shot. Mesquite Police Lieutenant Brandon Ricketts says police policy prohibits the officers involved from giving statements until several days have passed.
"Maybe they saw something that I can't see on the bodycam video, or maybe they heard something that is not on the video. We want to make sure that we're getting this as accuate as possible with all the information - and that the officers have a few days to get with their attorneys and make statements" said Ricketts.
So far the teenager who had the weapon is facing a charge of exhibition of a firearm, but more charges could be filed.
Mesquite police told our media partners at NBC 5 Pioneer Technology & Arts Academy campus did have an armed person on campus Monday but they were not involved in the incident.
Police say they know where the gun came from but say that's included in the 'ongoing' part of the case, but are still declining comment.
