A teacher at Mexia High School has been arrested for an improper relationship with a student. Mexia ISD and Mexia Police say they worked together on the investigation, and Roselynn Castillo, 33, was arrested this week.
Mexia ISD says it first learned about the accusations in February. The district says it placed Castillo on leave immediately and notified Mexia Police.
" The safety and wellbeing of all MISD students and faculty remains the school district's first priority," the district wrote in a statement.
Castillo was arrested and booked into the Limestone County Jail on charges of sexual assault of a child and improper relationship with a student. Both are second degree felonies.
Thursday afternoon, she was still listed as a Spanish teacher at Mexia High School.
This case follows several others in Texas this year.
Earlier this week, a former teacher in New Braunfels was arrested for an improper relationship with a student. Bryant Shephard, 41, taught at New Braunfels High School. He had resigned and was arrested in San Antonio. New Braunfels ISD says Shephard resigned the same day he was placed on leave.
In February, a teacher at Allie Middle School in Crowley ISD was arrested on two charges of sexual assault of a child under 17. Crowley ISD says the student did not attend Allie Middle School but was a student in the district.
"This is extremely upsetting to all of us, and this type of illegal behavior will not be tolerated in our community. We will continue to act like a family and work like a team in Crowley ISD. We ask for your patience as we navigate this difficult situation, and we remain grateful for your support of our students, staff and schools," Superintendent Michael McFarland wrote in a letter to parents at the time.
In January, a Bishop ISD teacher resigned after accusations of having an improper relationship with a student. Bishop, Texas is Southwest of Corpus Christi.
Andrea Pena, 28, was arrested February 3 and has been charged with having an improper relationship with a student, indecency with a child, sexual assault of a child, online solicitation of a minor and tampering with evidence.
