Midlothian police are searching for the owner of a dog that entered a residence and attacked a 1-year-old child and a 30-year-old woman, leaving both seriously injured.
Officers responded to a 911 call reporting an injured person around 9:15 p.m. Sunday, March 23, at Pecan Acres Mobile Park in Midlothian. Upon arrival, they found the adult female, identified as 30-year-old Kelsey Welch of Midlothian, holding the small child. Both were covered in blood, and the child appeared to have severe injuries, according to a Midlothian Police Department news release.
Welch told officers that an unknown dog — possibly a bull terrier — had entered their home and attacked them both. The dog was secured by officers in a back room of the residence until animal control arrived and took the animal into custody. No other people or animals were reported injured in the incident.
The child was transported to Midlothian Methodist Medical Center for treatment of severe injuries. One Midlothian police officer drove the ambulance to the hospital, allowing both medics to focus on caring for the boy during transport. The adult's specific injuries were not detailed beyond being bloodied from the attack. No fatalities were reported.
The investigation remains active as authorities work to identify and locate the dog's owner. Animal control has the dog in custody pending further proceedings. Police have not released additional details about the dog's exact breed confirmation or how it entered the home.
Pecan Acres Mobile Park is a residential community in Midlothian, located in Ellis County south of Dallas. The incident prompted a swift response from local law enforcement and emergency medical services but did not result in road closures or broader community disruptions. Residents in the area may see continued police presence as detectives follow up on leads.
Dog attacks involving serious injuries are investigated thoroughly under Texas law, which addresses dangerous animals and owner responsibility. Midlothian police have not indicated any prior complaints about this specific dog.
Anyone with information about the dog's owner or the incident is asked to contact the Midlothian Police Department.
The child remains hospitalized as of the latest reports. No updates on the adult victim's condition have been released.
