The superintendent of Millsap Independent School District, Dr. Edie Martin, officially resigned on Monday following her arrest amid allegations of mishandling a child abuse case involving special education students.

The resignation was announced during a school board meeting on Monday evening, where trustees confirmed that Martin had signed a termination agreement effective immediately.

The controversy began after a video surfaced showing educators allegedly mistreating a 10-year-old autistic and non-verbal student in a classroom.

Martin, along with two other educators, was arrested in connection with the incident.

She faces charges of failing to report the abuse and attempting to conceal evidence, including instructing staff to destroy the video and related communications.

Parents and community members have expressed outrage over the situation, with many attending recent board meetings to demand accountability and justice for the affected students.

The school board is now considering hiring an external investigator to review the case and address broader concerns about district policies and practices.

The incident has sparked a broader conversation about the safety and well-being of students with special needs in the district.
