At least 20 additional North Texas school districts open classrooms Wednesday morning for the start of the 2026-27 academic year, including Frisco, Coppell, Richardson, Forney, Grapevine-Colleyville, Hurst-Euless-Bedford, Keller and Lewisville.
The wave follows earlier returns in districts such as Fort Worth and Dallas. Students and staff in the listed districts and others across Collin, Dallas, Denton and Tarrant counties are reporting for the first full day of instruction.
Frisco ISD’s official calendar and announcements confirm Aug. 12 as the first day of school, with new procedures in place this year including slightly extended school hours and updates to device protection and grading policies.

Richardson ISD states on its website that school begins Wednesday, Aug. 12, for most campuses, following a Tuesday start for three Additional Days School Year sites.
Lewisville ISD campuses, including those serving Flower Mound, open Wednesday according to district information.
Keller ISD’s board-approved calendar sets the same start date, as does Grapevine-Colleyville ISD.
Hurst-Euless-Bedford and Forney ISDs also list Aug. 12 as the first instructional day.
Local officials and districts have reminded families of standard first-day logistics. School zone speed limits are back in effect, and traffic is expected to increase around campuses during morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal. Many districts held meet-the-teacher events in the preceding days and urged families to confirm bus routes, meal accounts and schedules through online portals.
The returns mark the formal end of summer for tens of thousands of students across the region. Districts have emphasized safety, updated codes of conduct in some cases, and readiness for the new year. No widespread issues with staffing or operations were reported in advance of Wednesday’s openings.
