Fort Worth Fire Rescue crews today responded to a military training aircraft crash in Lake Worth, just north of the Naval Air Station.
According to the Fort Worth Fire Department, the plane crashed into the backyards of homes in the 4000 block of Tejas Trail at approximately 11:00 a.m. on Sunday.
The two pilots involved both ejected from the plane, with one subsequently care flighted to Parkland in critical condition, and the other driven to Harris. The pilots were first assisted on the scene by two off-duty firefighters who happened to be in the vicinity.
The U.S. Navy confirmed on Monday that the instructor pilot involved in the crash was released from the hospital. The student pilot is still in serious condition and is receiving treatment for his injuries at Parkland.
In total, the crash damaged three homes and injured three residents, all of whom were treated on location for minor injuries. The fires have since been brought under control, however, 44 homes remain without power. Oncor hasn't given an estimate as to when the power will be back.
There is an investigation ongoing at the crash site with public safety officials and military personnel there to work and secure the scene.
