Crews from the National Weather Service in Fort Worth have been out across North Texas surveying damage from Tuesday morning's storms.
Meteorologist Tom Bradshaw says most of the damage appears to be due to straight-line winds, but there are some exceptions. Notable damage reported in the DFW area is likely due to pockets of enhanced winds and/or microbursts consistent with winds up to 80-85 mph.
The preliminary damage report indicates that there was an EF-1 tornado in Irving Tuesday at 5:25 a.m. with winds up to 110 miles per hour.
The National Weather Service report states the tornado began near Pecan Drive, south of West Pioneer Dr. and tracked east-northeast where it dissipated between Cedar Drive and North O'Connor Road."
"Mostly tree damage was observed along this
street. The tornado then impacted the Tree Country Apartments causing EF-1 wind damage to the roof of nearly every apartment building in the
complex. Tree and roof damage was also noted next door at the
Learning Tree Academy. Across the street, the Irving Police
Family Advocacy Center lost half of its roof and the covering off
a second-story balcony."
