Scores of dogs have been rescued from squalid conditions in western Tarrant County at a property near Aledo and are now on the road to recovery.
Officials say the Rescue group Saving Hope was called to a home off Aledo Iona Road not too long ago about dogs living in deplorable conditions there.
Kailee Powell, foster coordinator for the Fort Worth-based organization, tells NBCDFW they were expecting to see around 40 dogs there, but that was a huge underestimation.
“Just seeing how many dogs were confined to this one space was just really hard to see,” Powell said.
“You can walk the property and it seems like maybe there are 40,” Lauren Anton, Executive Director of Saving Hope told NBCDFW. “But there are holes where you would find puppies everywhere.”
In all, officials say so far they've found upwards of 70 dogs, some of which had severe injuries. They were removed from the property one-by-one; and thanks to the kindness of the community, more than half of them are now in foster homes.
Anton says an animal cruelty investigation is underway against the property owners whos name has not been released.
Saving Hope returned to the property Sunday to rescue more dogs. By the time the rescue mission is complete, they say the total number of dogs rescued could be upwards of 80.
