The parent company of Neiman Marcus is moving forward with its decision to close the retailer’s downtown Dallas store, despite efforts from city officials and business leaders to keep it open.

Since Saks Global announced plans to shut down the location — where Neiman Marcus has operated for 110 years — Dallas officials have been working to prevent the closure. Partnering with a downtown business group, the city secured the lease for a small parcel of land that the company had cited as a factor in its decision.

However, in a statement, Saks Global said its decision is “final,” adding that the company is shifting its focus to improving its NorthPark Center store.

Neiman Marcus’ downtown Dallas location has been a landmark for more than a century, and its closure marks a significant shift for the area’s retail landscape.
