Neiman Marcus will permanently close its historic flagship store in downtown Dallas at the end of September, marking the end of more than a century of retail presence in the city’s central business district.
Saks Global, which owns the luxury retailer, announced the decision Tuesday. The store at 1618 Main Street will shutter on September 30, 2026. The company plans to shift its focus to the much stronger-performing Neiman Marcus location at NorthPark Center. Elements of the downtown store, including the popular Zodiac Room restaurant, are expected to be incorporated into the NorthPark site.
The closure comes after months of uncertainty. The store was originally slated to close in March 2025 amid lease disputes but received extensions through the 2025 holiday season and into 2026 following negotiations with city leaders. Saks Global cited changing customer shopping habits and significantly higher sales at NorthPark — reportedly more than 10 times that of the downtown location — as key factors in the final decision.
The move represents another significant loss for downtown Dallas, which is already facing an exodus of major tenants. It follows recent announcements from the Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Stars planning to leave American Airlines Center, along with corporate departures including AT&T’s headquarters relocation to Plano and Fifth Third Bank’s exit from the Comerica Tower.
City officials expressed disappointment but pledged to continue working with Saks Global on future redevelopment opportunities for the landmark property. The store, which first opened in 1907, has long served as a symbol of Dallas luxury and downtown vitality.
The closure is part of Saks Global’s broader efforts to optimize its store footprint while navigating bankruptcy proceedings.
