Health officials across North Texas are keeping a close eye on the monkeypox outbreak.
Tarrant County Public Health Director Vinny Taneja says the number of monkeypox cases in the county has doubled since this time last week.
Taneja says the county received a thousand more doses of the monkeypox vaccine, and that they will be working with community partners to get those out to those who have been exposed. He says there are almost 6,000 monkeypox cases in the U.S., and that number is rapidly growing.
In Dallas County, The Dallas County Health & Human Services Monkeypox hotline (972) 692-2780 is up and running, and getting lots of calls.
Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins says the monkeypox vaccine remains in low supply and can only be offered to people who meet certain criteria.
Worldwide, there are about 23,000 cases in roughly 80 countries.
