One north Texas high school football coach is on leave after parents say his over the top workouts landed some players in the hospital.
Rockwall Heath football Coach John Harrell has been placed on leave after multiple parents reported that their students needed medical attention, some even requiring hospitalization, during the team's offseason program workouts.
In a letter to parents, school officials said that the student-athletes were required to perform multiple push-ups. Some parents have suggested as many as 300 over in a 60 minute period.
The school district would not confirm how many students were hospitalized or what the circumstances of the workout were. The school said they are investigating and that student safety is their number one priority.
Harrell has been at Rockwall-Heath since 2019. They were 7-5 this season and lost in the second round of the high school football playoffs this year.
