A North Texas man now faces a murder charge after the victim in an alleged assault outside a Dallas business earlier this month died from his injuries.
Dallas police said Dillon Michael Hill, 34, was initially arrested July 5 on a charge of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury. The charge was upgraded to murder after 50-year-old John David Zuniga died from injuries sustained in the incident.
According to an arrest affidavit, officers responded to a disturbance in the 4200 block of Harry Hines Boulevard around 2:13 a.m. July 5. Investigators said witnesses had separated Hill and Zuniga when Hill allegedly yelled, "I'm a killer" and "You don't know me" before punching Zuniga with a closed fist.
Police said Zuniga fell backward down patio stairs and struck his head on the pavement. Officers found him unresponsive and without a pulse, performed CPR and turned him over to Dallas Fire-Rescue crews, who took him to a hospital.
Authorities said Zuniga suffered a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain and later died from his injuries.
Police said Hill also had active warrant holds from the Grand Prairie and Arlington police departments when he was arrested. The investigation remains ongoing.
